List of Healthy Foods to Have in Your Refrigerator
Is your refrigerator a scary place? See the list of healthy foods your refrigerator contains and which it doesn’t.
Without even noticing it, you may be gathering a whole lot of products you may never eat, thus throwing your money away for nothing. Even worse, you may have spent your food budget on foods that do more harm than good.
Dr. Oz summed up a list of healthy foods important to have in your refrigerator, or better yet:
How to have the perfect relationship with your refrigerator
and be on your way to a healthier and happier life
Rule no. 1: To begin putting together the list of healthy foods one must first focus on the essential!
Eggs: contain cholesterol and are good for the heart.
Milk: choose low-fat milk and replace it from time to time with almond milk.
Wholegrain bread: healthy bread has at least 3 grams of fiber per slice.
Rule no. 2: To complete the list of healthy foods fill the refrigerator drawers with colored veggies and fruit!
Your refrigerator drawers are destined to house vegetables and fruits. These must have each color of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, purple and brown. For example – red pepper, apples, tomatoes, oranges, lemons, spinach, cabbage, grapes and mushrooms.
Remember you can always replace fresh vegetables and fruits with frozen products (that is if there is not enough room for fresh food).
Rule no. 3: Beautify the dairy drawer!
Defeat the temptation of buying pieces of cheese containing large amounts of fat (on the principle that they are tastier) by choosing rationally low fat cheese, which, surprisingly, can be more delicious. The list of healthy foods focuses on your dairy drawers, too, that should also contain:
Yogurt – recommended Greek yogurt rich in proteins and ideal for cooking
Parmesan – You won’t be able to eat much of this flavor full cheese, but your food will be savory
Goat cheese – delicious and creamy, goat cheese has less calories and fat than cow cheese.
Rule no. 4: Obey the list of healthy foods and fill your refrigerator with proteins!
The perfect refrigerator contains beef, and in times when you feel the need for a change learn to be flexible.
Chicken – chicken breast or grilled chicken
Turkey – when buying breakfast food choose brands that don’t contain nitrates.
Tofu – the first timers with tofu should choose solid tofu.
Rule no. 5: Freeze your spices!
Choose spices with high expiry date and health benefits: Garlic, Canned fruit with no added sugar, Mustard, Salsa, Humus.
