India Continues to Lead in Medical Tourism Markets

India continues to be among the most popular medical tourism destinations in the world. You would think that if their care was substandard, lax, or if training, equipment and technology was ‘behind the times’, people wouldn’t go. Well, that’s just it. India is a leader in medical care. They have cutting edge technologies, medical training and experience. Indian doctors and surgeons are trained in highly acclaimed university and medical schools in India, Europe, and the U.S. and abroad.

Indian doctors often specialize in orthopedic surgeries and procedures, cardiac care, transplant procedures and plastic and cosmetic surgical procedures. India is also a leader in nuclear medicine, robotic surgical technologies, and neurosurgery and cancer procedures.  Do you wonder why so many Americans (and a growing number of baby boomers) travel to India for such treatment?  It’s because of the enormous savings on their medical care – as compared to healthcare costs in the U.S. – about a tenth of the cost of procedures and surgeries in the states.  So really, it’s no wonder that medical tourism in India is increasing at a rate of about 30% a year.

Whether you’re looking for traditional Ayurveda or surgeons in India, cities like Mumbai, New Delhi, Mysore and Chennai offer the best. The Madras Joint Replacement Center is one of India’s most modern hospitals for orthopedic surgery, while the Indus Valley Ayurveda Center offers alternative medicine and treatments for chronic disease and cancer. The Lakshmi Neuro Clinic of neurosurgeon Dr. Ramnarayan in Chennai offers excellent care for spine and brain injury, tumors or congenital defects.

India continues to be a leader in medical tourism for a reason.
