Medical Tests For The Gallbladder – What You Need to Know!

The gallbladder is a sack-shaped organ that gathers all the bladder juices from the liver, later releasing them in the intestines during digestion. The main purpose of the bile juices is to help with the digestion by stimulating the fat absorption in the body.

What you need to know about the gall bladder:

The bile juices are produced within the liver and the bile concentrates the liquids by up to 9 times, later releasing them into the intestines, only during digestion. Besides its role regarding the fat absorption, the bile also comes in when activating the pancreatic enzymes, with a very important part during the digestion. The bile actually makes the fat digestion easier and intervenes indirectly when the body has to absorb the vitamins found in the fat such as vitamins A, D, E, K, cholesterol and iron.

The gallbladder can also activate the movement of your intestines in order to produce stools and it neutralizes the gastric juice in the intestines, thus limiting the burning effects the gastric juice might have on the intestine wall when the acidity level is high.

Because the bile juices produced by the liver gather within the gall bladder, there are cases when the gall bladder gathers too much juice making the liver stall and leading to jaundice.

Medical Tests for the Gallbladder – The Bilirubin

The bilirubin is released in the bloodstream and later, analyzes such as total bilirubin, direct bilirubin, indirect bilirubin can follow. Depending on the values, the doctor will make a differential diagnosis for various liver disease or gallbladder disease or condition.

Medical Tests for the Gallbladder: Bile Acids in Serum

Bile acids are administered by IV/injection into the bloodstream (Biochemistry) and they reveal the liver cycle/hepatic cycle. Their variations give information on the liver or bile dysfunction.

Medical Tests for the Gallbladder: Bile Analysis

In some cases, the doctor may ask for the analysis of the bile juice, which will require you to do gastrointestinal casing, a test that can help the doctor analyze the gallbladder contents to look for the possible existence of an abnormal bacteria at this level, making it easier to issue a diagnosis.

Medical Tests for the Gall Bladder: Abdominal Ultrasound

Abdominal ultrasound is to assess the congenital abnormalities in the gallbladder, and the gallbladder content. It can also detect gallstones. The abdominal ultrasound helps doctors see the bladder wall thickness, dismissing or confirming cholecystitis.
